“With many names and faces, the great goddess spreads her arms.
She was there as we crawled from warm oceans, as we slunk in caves.
We carved her in stone and painted her in ochre.
Our first and last mother, burning star, abysmal void.
“She is at once the vast sky and wet soil
A stream of blood, cut with the crescent moon.
Crowned with nebulae, she has birds upon her shoulders
“And worms curl in mud between her toes.
Her holy animals await: cow, lion, snake, owl
Milk and claw, fang and feather.
She is the glint of eyes in firelight, the clash of cymbals and bells.
Offer her pomegranates and honey in a temple of trees.
She is ablaze with light!
This show is dedicated in loving memory of Janice Kun”
